Bécasse Bakery
Written on Sunday, 27 September 2015 @ 15:54 ✈
Bécasse Bakery in Westfields Sydney CBD provides a large range of desserts including cronuts, tarts, danishes, pies, croissants, you name it! However, I decided to go there as I wanted to give their range of macarons a try. I'd been told in the past to drop by sometime, but by the time I arrived that day which was quite late in the afternoon, the range had reduced substantially. I had managed to get my hands on the french vanilla, cheesecake, salted caramel, and golden praline.
{ L-R: golden praline, cheesecake, french vanilla, salted caramel }
French vanilla - This macaron tasted very milky, reminding me very much of white chocolate. The overall texture of the macaron was very sweet, maybe the sweetest macaron that I had tasted of the ones I purchased. The shells were very crisp and sweet. I imagined that the shells were made of icing sugar as the pieces of the shell melted in my mouth. The white filling was very smooth, resembling the texture of melted white chocolate. This macaron would definitely satisfy those who have a sweet tooth or enjoy the taste of white chocolate.
Cheesecake - The overall taste of this macaron was very balanced. The filling was rather smooth and buttery, while the shells added a slightly sugary taste to the filling. The shells were once again crisp and made a delightful crunch sound with each bite. This macaron is rather perfect for those who don't have a sweet tooth, but rather a balanced (ie. not too sweet) snack. The pink powder sprinkled on the shells gave the macaron such a delicate appearance, something that would be served at fancy picnic or afternoon tea.
Salted caramel - This macaron, I had high expectations for as everyone always raves about this flavour. As expected, it had a very creamy-buttery & moderately salty filling. The shells were light and once again, melted in my mouth with every bite. The macaron also had a slightly sugary taste... possibly from the shells itself as well as the 'caramel' in the filling. It was a pleasant balance between the sugary shells and the salty/buttery texture of the filling. Again, this macaron would be appreciated more by those who don't have much of a sweet tooth, or a fans of the salted caramel flavour.
Golden praline - I left this macaron 'till last because it looked so precious - with its petite, delicate, golden shells. It was a very pleasant level of sweetness, not as sweet as... say a chocolate bar. It was definitely not as sweet as the french vanilla macaron. This macaron had somewhat of a peanut-caramel-butter taste, in contrast with the sweet white chocolate taste of the french vanilla. I felt that both the filling, and the crisp and crunchy shells were sweet. As I didn't know what a 'golden praline' was, the taste of the filling was similar to that of peanut butter cups. This macaron also didn't leave that sweet aftertaste that chocolate blocks leave, it melted as it was consumed and the taste disappeared quite quickly.

Aqua S: Sea salt x English breakfast tea
Written on Sunday, 13 September 2015 @ 14:45 ✈
Sea salt x English breakfast tea is probably by far, the best combination of flavours that I've tried at AquaS!
For those who are tea lovers (and who doesn't enjoy a cup of tea every now and then?), AquaS nailed the English breakfast flavour. It's a shame I missed out on the Earl grey flavour, because I heard such amazing things about that flavour. However, after trying this English breakfast flavour, I don't feel as disappointed about missing out on Earl grey.
The English breakfast flavour was rich in flavour, and gave a very pleasant neutral taste to the saltyness of the Sea salt flavour. I would definitely come back for more and definitely looking forward to other tea-inspired flavours! Labels: aqua s, dessert, dessert review, english breakfast tea, ice cream, sea salt

Le Caravelle
Written on Tuesday, 11 August 2015 @ 11:14 ✈
Note: Le Caravelle at Canley Heights only opens its restaurant seating to people who only want to grab ice cream after 10pm.
{ Flavours: mango, kinder surprise, green tea }
This was I think the large which held about 6 scoops?
The mango had the strongest flavour of the 3 flavours, although the mango flavour tasted like it had been mixed with shaved ice. I could taste and feel the bits of shaved ice melt in my mouth with every spoonful of the mango.
The kinder surprise flavour was much lighter than I expected and had tasted in the past. It tasted as if it had been diluted with cream or milk? Compared to the kinder surprise ice cream from V Lounge, it was about a quarter of the strength of the flavour.
Green tea was a pleasant strength. The strength of the flavour was in between the mango and kinder surprise. It was enough to balance out the sweetness of the mango and kinder surprise, which I felt had kept me from needing to take a gulp water to wash down the sweet taste.
For those who have more of a sweet tooth or want a stronger flavour in their ice creams, V-Lounge would probably be a better option.

Schnitz
Written on Saturday, 8 August 2015 @ 19:36 ✈
Schnitz has been open in Liverpool Westfields for a while now, but I never thought to try out the place 'till earlier this week. I have a weakness for burgers... and I'm on a roll to seek out my favourite burger/s around my area.
Schnitz offers their range in the form of a wrap or a burger, however everyone at the restaurant obviously went for the burger option.
My friend and I both had the AussieAussieAussie burger, basically because who doesn't love having bacon in my burgers. I think this burger was the only one that had bacon. We also shared large fries with honey mustard sauce which was delicious. Compared to the classic tomato/mustard sauce, it wasn't sour at all. I'm not a huge fan of sour sauces.
The burger was different to what Grill'd would normally offer. There was a fried egg in the burger which to me.... was a bit strange. I'm not used to having egg in my burgers. Although, people who enjoy eating a bacon and egg burger would have liked this AussieAussieAussie burger. The size of the beetroot was as big as the burger itself. I was expecting to have small discs of beetroot sliding out from the sides of my burger but the slice of beetroot extended towards every edge of the burger. The schnitzel was a bit dry. It would be wise to have a drink handy as you would probably be taking a sip between bites.
Lastly, the burger itself was enormous. I personally was only able to fit half the burger in my mouth at a time, meaning I would take a bite of the bottom half of the layers within the burger, then take a bite of the top half of the layers. My friend on the other hand finished the burger without any trouble... and in a third of the time it took me to finish my burger.
In comparison with the burgers I've had at Grill'd, the AussieAussieAussie burger in general was more dry. I think anyone who has tried any of the burgers at Grill'd would agree that by the end of their meal, they would find their plate covered with the sauces from the texture of the ingredients of their burger.
The fries were on-point though. I loved it, but then again who doesn't love fries?! Labels: burgers, food review, review, schnitz
Cafe Cre Asion
Written on Saturday, 1 August 2015 @ 20:22 ✈
A few days ago, I decided to finally drop by a little cafe on the outskirts of Town Hall called 'Cafe Cre Asion'. Lately, the hype around this Cafe has been growing rapidly, hearing that its Matcha Green Tea Latte and Fondant with Seasonal Berries were a must.
It was about a 10 minute walk from Town Hall station and situated in a small alleyway. Honestly, if I had gone to this cafe alone, I would have turned around at the sight of the alleyway as it was quite deserted. I'm glad I dropped by with a friend though.
I had been warned by friends who had previously gone to this cafe that the Latte would be bitter, but I never expected it to be as bitter as I had tasted. The Latte itself without the sprinkled powder on top the froth layer of the Latte was fine. It was a different experience as I had never tasted a genuine green tea drink. Although, it was not quite what I was used to as I realised how much sugar was added to the green tea lattes that I have previously tasted at My Sweet Memory and Chanoma. The Latte from Cre Asion presented a genuine and unsweetened green tea flavour.
I personally prefer my drinks to be sweet, which is also why I never drink coffee as I dislike the bitter taste of coffees. I would very much like to try the other drinks that are available at Cre Asion, such as the Japanese teas or the Chai Latte, as Chai latte's are generally sweeter which is definitely more agreeable with my taste buds.
We also tried the Fondant with seasonal berries, it was amazing. As I cut into the soft walls of the fondant, the glossy green tea filling could be seen running from its centre. At first I was a bit hesitant, as I was unsure of whether it would be as bitter as the latte, however it wasn't at all. The green tea filling itself was the perfect amount of bitterness. Actually, it was hardly noticeable. I wouldn't know how to describe it as it has been a while... but the taste of the Fondant was balanced as the sweet taste of the chocolate cake mixed together with the somewhat light green tea tasting filling. The seasonal berries presented a mix of sweet and sour tastes. I was devouring the berries too fast to notice what type of berries were sitting in front of me, but the overall sweet taste of the berries was refreshing after having a spoonful of the chocolate cake.
The cafe itself was very cramped as there were about 9 customers (including myself and my friend) seated inside and we had filled every seat available. There were about 6 seats available outside the cafe, however it was too cold and windy to sit outside. However, as this cafe had only recently gained popularity, I wasn't too surprised by its size. I will definitely love to come back again to have the Fondant and try the other drinks that are available.
